Short mountain taste
Poklon visitor centre plus an easy forest walk, or Vela Draga as a focused geological stop.
Classic first visit
Poklon to Vojak and back, with time for the summit and visitor centre.
Deep Učka
A longer route, or combine a summit hike with a second landscape such as Vela Draga.
Orientation
Sea on one side. Istria on the other.
Approach and weather can differ significantly depending on which side of the massif you are coming from. Do not assume conditions at the coast describe conditions near Vojak.
Seasonality
The mountain has its own weather.
Heat, wind, thunderstorms, cloud, wet limestone and short winter daylight can all change the character of a route. Učka is close to the coast, but it should still be treated as mountain terrain.
In summer, start earlier than your coastal instincts suggest. In shoulder seasons, carry warmer layers. In winter conditions, do not extrapolate from a sunny seafront.
Where should I start?
Poklon for a first visit; Vela Draga if your priority is a short geological walk; a coastal trailhead only if you specifically want a large ascent.
Can I drive close to the summit?
Road access and restrictions can change. Check official information before relying on any particular access arrangement.
